Quick Overview
Ice skating at Acacia Ridge is a fantastic way to spend a few hours, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned skater. The rink offers a fun and welcoming environment for all skill levels, with support aids like penguin-shaped stabilisers for complete beginners, plenty of space to improve, and a lively atmosphere. The session lasts two hours, giving you plenty of time to get comfortable on the ice, take a few breaks, hit the cafe, and enjoy the experience.
The centre of the rink is where the experienced skaters show off their moves, while beginners can stay near the wall and gradually gain confidence before moving further onto the ice. After a solid session on the ice, the warm café serves delicious hot food, which is perfect for warming up after a few hours of skating.
How to Get There

How Long Is It?
Each public ice-skating session at Acacia Ridge lasts two hours. If you plan on grabbing food from the café, it is best not to wait until the last few minutes of the session, as some of the more popular food items may sell out by then (I had to share my dagwood dog that I’d been thinking about all session) or the cafe may even shut.
For first-timers or those new to skating, two hours is generally a good amount of time before fatigue sets in. Skating is more of a workout than it looks, and after a while, you will appreciate having the option to take a break in the café or sit down for a few minutes.
What Should I Bring?
- A warm jacket or hoodie – don’t be like me. I thought I’d be fine once I was moving around and didn’t bring one. While I still had a lot of fun, I really regretted it.
- Gloves to protect your hands if you fall. If you don’t have any, they sell them in the cafe.
- Long socks to make the rental skates more comfortable.
- Wear something warm that allows for movement and provides a little protection.
What Else Should I Know?
- Beginners can use support aids like penguins to help them balance and build confidence on the ice. These are great for younger children or anyone completely new to skating.
- If you are unsure, stick to the wall at first, and move further out as you get more comfortable. Many beginners do this, while the more experienced skaters tend to stay in the centre of the rink.
- Falling does hurt, so take it slow if you are still learning. The staff are great though and helped us out with our technique!
- There are rental skates available, so you do not need to bring your own. Just make sure they fit snugly.
- The café offers great hot food, which is perfect for warming up after skating. It’s a good idea to grab food before the session ends, as some popular items might run out.
Ice skating at Acacia Ridge is a fun and active way to spend a morning or an afternoon, whether you are a total beginner or a confident skater. Dressing warmly is a must, as the rink is much colder than you might expect. The café is a great spot to relax and enjoy hot food after skating, and two hours on the ice is the perfect amount of time to get the most out of the experience.
